| September 12th to 14th 2008
After another successful, if slightly damp, event in 2007, we have
decided to follow the same format for 2008. The Burnside hotel at
Bowness-on-Windermere will again be our base. More details at www.burnsidehotel.com
or telephone 015394-42211 for bookings. We are still getting a slightly
reduced rate of £72 per person per night based on two nights Dinner
B & B, prices have been held at the same rate as last year. We will once again have
our own parking area, full use of the leisure club (including swimming
pool) and other facilities. There are two rooms specially fitted
out for disabled visitors. They also accept dogs in most rooms and
have some rooms where dogs are not allowed, for those with an aversion
or an allergy. There are a few family and single rooms. Of the over
50 rooms, 20 have been provisionally reserved for us. For those
wishing to stay elsewhere but still attend the Saturday evening
meal it will be £28 per head for a 4-course meal plus coffee. Discounts
are available if you wish to stay for longer before or after the
weekend, e.g. 50% reduction for Sunday night. Please make bookings
directly with the hotel and mention that you are with the Rover
Sports Register rally to get the discounted rates.
On Saturday, we have a provisional booking with
the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, I am just waiting for confirmation
of the arrangements. For further details of what is available
there please see www.lakesiderailway.co.uk
. There will also be an optional tour around some of the Lake
District byways with a stop somewhere for lunch. This is still
in the planning stage at the moment. 'Planning' involves visiting
various attractions and hostelries to check on their suitability.
It's a tough job but someone has to do it.
In the evening, after the meal, there will the
traditional quiz in the hotel bar afterwards.
On Sunday we will visit Holker Hall, near Grange-over-Sands,
the home of Lord & Lady Cavendish, where we will have the final
gathering of the cars and the judging. Further details of Holker
Hall are available at www.holker-hall.co.uk.
Entrants will be sent a group discount voucher for entry to
the house and gardens. The Lakeland Motor Museum will still
be there but this is almost certainly the last year, I have been
told that the museum really will be moving in October 2008, after
our event. Entry fee for the week-end remains at £5 per vehicle,
to include rally plaque and basic entry to Holker Hall grounds for
the rally on Sunday.
We look forward to seeing you all again.
Please note that closing date for entries
this year will be the 2nd September; entries arriving after this
date will not receive passes for Holker Hall or appear on the programme.
